Wonder revised Essay

The book Wonder by R.J. Palacio, is about a boy who faces many challenges in fifth grade. It's from the perspective of many challenging people. August is a boy with a disordered face. He gets bullied in fifth grade but his friends try to make sure this dose not happen. August's face is what makes him himself. He's normal on the inside but on the outside he is one of a kind.

Throughout the story August was judged by his face. Just his face. No one really new how smart he was till they hung out with him. The other students just new him as some awkward looking physco. Not a normal kid like he really is. Especially Julian, who just thinks August is just a big joke, and has some sort of 'cheese touch' kind of the thing.

Also in the story, during fifth grade camp August and Jack went into the woods to do some buissnes and they run into four seven and eighth graders. They beat up Auggie, Jack, and a few other kids. The eighth graders began making fun of and calling Auggie names, like '"What happend to your face?" "Hey guys I didn't know we were watching lord of the rings... look guys it's Gollum'. Then Amos, Jack, Henery, and Miles stood up for Auggie. And started fighting back and protecting Auggie.

By the end of the story Auggie was treated with more and more respect. He got a Henry Ward Beecher medal. As Mr. Tushman was introducing the medal he was explaining how well Auggie was working and interacting with others. For Example '"strength was carried with the most hearts"'. This shows that Auggie gained his strength to use for others, he interacts with.

Don't judge anyone by there face. In the book Wonder I learned that everyone is different and equal. I think that Auggie and other people like him should be treated more like a normal kid. My cousin is just like Auggie. She has a deformed face, we get along together, after a while you just get used to what they look like.
